The Pokémon TCG’s Shrouded Fable released in August 2024 and represented the middle “Special Expansion” out of five from the Scarlet & Violet era of the game.
While its follow-up Special Expansion, Prismatic Evolutions, was home to a smorgasbord of delightful (and supremely valuable) Special Illustration Rares, Shrouded Fable pales in comparison to that set’s intense valuations – with a couple of Shrouded Fable-era promo cards – Kingdra ex and Greninja ex being far more valuable than most of the cards herein.

10. Munkidori – Illustration Rare, 072/064
Market Price: $33.72
The Poison/Psychic-type member of the “Loyal Three” from Pokémon Scarlet & Violet’s The Teal Mask DLC is Munkidori, and this ‘mon’s striking IR kicks things off with an over-$30 valuation.
This card was a notable left-field build-around competitively in its heyday. Surprisingly, the far scarcer SIR version of this card is worth around $14 less than the IR, probably because the IR’s artwork, courtesy of Teeziro, is way better.
9. Basic Metal Energy – Hyper Rare, 099/064
Market Price: $33.89
You know a set is lacking in heavy hitters when an Energy card is populated on this list – even if that Energy is a Hyper Rare, making it one of the rarest cards from the entire set.
While the golden Metal Energy just beats out Munkidori for #9 on this list, there is a far more valuable Energy card from Shrouded Fable that ranks even higher. Read on to find out!
8. Dusclops – Illustration Rare, 069/064
Market Price: $36.61
One of the most beautiful interconnected series of artworks from the entire Scarlet & Violet era bests even the lovely Feebas and Milotic ex from Surging Sparks, though this series features three ‘mon instead of two, perhaps giving it an unfair advantage.
James Turner (of less valuable Pikachu ex fame from Ascended Heroes) illustrates all three of the ‘mon in the Ghost-type Duskull’s evolution line: Duskull itself, Dusclops, and Dusknoir. While middle evolution draws the short straw as the least valuable, it’s still a striking and somewhat ominous-looking card that earns its over-$35 price tag.
7. Fezandipiti ex – Special Illustration Rare, 092/064
Market Price: $41.22
While the Ascended Heroes SIR version of this card blows this one out of the water, this Fezandipiti card shows the power of competitive strength, as Fezandipiti has long been a notable one-of in most good PTCG decks currently.
That will surely continue until the game’s competitive set rotation occurs in early 2027, sometime between March and April, most likely.
6. Cassiopeia – Special Illustration Rare, 094/64
Market Price: $43.52
Penny’s hacker alter ego from the events of Scarlet & Violet’s story also gets a tremendously illustrated SIR with a reasonably lofty price tag to boot.
Whenever I’m in my office at the desktop, I feel exactly like Cassiopeia on this card, so it’s definitely a relatable look – though I won’t admit to starting a cool gang of Pokémon trainers under the nose of my friends (not yet, at least).
5. Horsea – Illustration Rare, 067/064
Market Price: $48.76
The first and only full-art Horsea card features some sterling artwork courtesy of Shinya Komatsu, who seems to specialize in the color blue in his illustrations as almost all of his work is replete with a kaleidoscopic amount of blue hues.
This Horsea is an amazing rendition of this Generation One ‘mon, only bested by Atsuko Nishida’s astounding take from 2006’s Holon Phantoms.
4. Duskull – Illustration Rare, 068/064
Market Price: $53.28
Shockingly, Dusknoir, the final form of Duskull doesn’t qualify for this list (just misses at #11), and the first form of this Ghost-type line clocks in with a lofty price tag above $50 for this beautifully illustrated IR.
Featuring clean lines and bright, bold colors—both hallmarks of James Turner’s art style—this is an amazing rendition of Duskull and only the second-ever full-art card for this ‘mon, after Crown Zenith’s Galarian Gallery rendition.
3. Houndoom – Illustration Rare, 066/064
Market Price: $56.75
One of Generation Two’s inaugural Dark-types snags the bronze medal for Shrouded Fable’s most valuable pulls, barking up a price tag comfortably over the $55 mark.
This Illustration Rare captures the menacing, fiery essence of Houndoom perfectly, making it a highly desirable chase card for fans of the Johto region. While it might not possess the sweeping competitive relevance of a card like Fezandipiti ex, the sheer cool factor of this dark doggo is enough to drive its collectibility sky-high.
2. Basic Darkness Energy – Hyper Rare, 098/064
Market Price: $62.90
Stunningly, the second-most valuable card from Shrouded Fable is a lowly energy, though it is, admittedly a Hyper Rare rendition of one. Still, we’re not talking Treekachu- or Ascended Heroes Mega Gengar ex SIR-level of second-most valuable card here.
1. Persian – Illustration Rare, 078/064
Market Price: $72.84
A deserving “leader in the clubhouse” for most valuable card from Shrouded Fable is this tremendous Persian IR. Though it isn’t the most valuable Persian card ever (that honor would go to some combination of First Edition Holo Giovanni’s Persian from Gym Challenge, Holo Rocket’s Persian ex from Unseen Forces, and Reverse Holo Dark Persian from Legendary Collection), this weighs in strongly with an over-$70 price point.
Featuring a scheming Persian shown only via its reflection in a window, this is some of the best art in the set, courtesy of (fittingly) artist Whisker.
And there you have it. While Shrouded Fable lacks the collectible clout and tremendous dollar values of other Special Expansions before or after it, it is still an intriguing part of PTCG history, and it deserves its flowers – if only for the Duskull IR set and the Persian IR.
