Topps tantalizes fans with ridiculous unpulled AJ Dybantsa superfractor on NBA Draft night

You are such teases, Topps.

The 2026 NBA Draft is upon us, and unless there is an upset and the mock drafts are wrong, odds are good that AJ Dybantsa is going to be the No. 1 overall pick. That has been the expectation for months now, and there hasn't been any indication (yet) that anything has changed, although the Washington Wizards are still being cagey about the pick for the moment. While it will be a while before we get any cards of Dybantsa in his new NBA uniform, the chase has been on for a while for his Bowman 1st autos and especially his superfractor from 2025-26 Bowman Basketball.

While it remains to be seen if "Bowman 1sts" in Bowman basketball products will be given the same premium from collectors as is definitely the case in baseball, the Dybantsa superfractor is extremely high on the list of chase cards from 2025-26 Bowman and is definitely the most desirable of the 1sts in the product. There have been some superfractors of inserts and other autos of his that have been pulled, but there has not been word so far that the big one has seen the light of day.

Well, Topps clearly knows that and knows that the NBA Draft is a great time to get people to gobble up cards by the dozen, so they took the opportunity to capitalize on the hype around Dybantsa's selection and remind collectors that his superfractor is real and still out there.

Hype for AJ Dybantsa's 2026 NBA Draft Day (hello, Wizards?) reaches new heights after superfractor tease

It was already near impossible to find Bowman basketball at anything resembling a reasonable price. Collectors have been clamoring for Cooper Flagg, Dylan Harper, and Kon Knueppel rookies throughout this collecting season, and they all have plenty of big cards to chase in Bowman. While the hype around that rookie class may have subsided a bit, Topps just reminded everyone of their first true foray into the Bowman waters when it comes to basketball. Yes, collectors, there are potentially even bigger cards to hunt for.

As for how crazy that hype could get, that is hard to say. As of the night of the draft, you could buy raw copies of Dybantsa's base 1st auto for around $300. Once he's drafted, you can probably expect a bit of a jump, but he will have to prove that he can be a generational talent to start threatening entry into the tier of truly elite names in collecting the way Victor Wembanyama has (until recently). However, superfractors are a different animal, and it is safe to say that when it is finally revealed, it will easily be a five-figure card, and might threaten six figures if it's put up for auction.

Given the amount of money involved, you can expect collectors to open all of the Bowman they can get their hands on until the card is pulled. Unfortunately, Topps' little tease on draft night here is not going to make that chase any cheaper.
