Pikachu is by far the most recognizable Pokémon of all time, and this adorable little Electric-type yellow Mouse Pokémon has been featured on an avalanche of Pokémon TCG cards over the years – dating all the way back to the very first set in the game’s history.
Since then, PTCG cards have changed, but one thing remains unchanged: Pikachu is still an omnipresent part of the game, and many ultra-rare English-language cards featuring this adorable little critter deliver stratospheric price points on the modern secondary market.
But what are the most valuable English Pikachu Pokémon cards of all time? Let’s zap to it and find out!

11. Pikachu ex (Special Illustration Rare) – Surging Sparks
Market Price: $287.89
The singular grail and most valuable card from 2024’s Surging Sparks expansion is the rainbow-colored Tera-type Pikachu ex SIR, affectionately (and esoterically) referred to as “Butthole Pikachu.”
Whether that nickname will stick long-term is anybody’s guess, but for now, it rounds out the list of the most valuable English Pikachu cards, and it looks like a good long-term hold as late-era Scarlet & Violet sets await their inevitable glow-up in a few years’ time.
10. Birthday Pikachu – Black Star Promo
Market Price: $305.00
One of the most beloved early promo cards from the Wizards of the Coast era of the Pokémon TCG is this Pikachu with a literal blank in its card name alongside stupendously colorful artwork by longtime PTCG contributor – the legendary Kagemaru Himeno.
While the reprinted version of this card from Celebrations can be had for under $40, the original WotC promo will set you back over $300, which actually seems fitting for one of the biggest early grails among promo card hunters in the TCG’s early days.
9. Pikachu (First Edition Red Cheeks) – Base Set
Market Price: $355.00
Various versions of the very first Pikachu card ever printed, Base Set Pikachu, tip the scales heavily when it comes to value. The first example herein is the First Edition version of the card with red cheeks.
As Poké-aficionados know, when Pikachu is about to unleash an attack, its normally red cheeks turn yellow in advance of unleashing the stored electrical power found within said cheeks. However, Pika’s cheekas (don’t mind my artistic license with that phrase) were mistakenly recolored in early printings of Base Set – making those incorrectly colored Pikachu cards incredibly valuable, especially the First Edition version.
8. Pikachu ex (Special Illustration Rare) – Ascended Heroes, 277/217
Market Price: $381.94
One of the most valuable cards from Ascended Heroes, this strikingly cartoonish Pikachu SIR’s value has dipped considerably since its lofty high of nearly $500 in late April/early May, but just under $400 is nothing to sneeze at for this James Turner-illustrated ‘Chu.
If you’re a big fan of the color pink, there’s a lot to like about this card (and the entire Ascended Heroes expansion in general, as a number of rare full-art cards from the set prioritize the color pink). Clearly, collectors understand its appeal as well – though it pales in comparison to the preferred Pikachu grail from this set (more on that later).
7. Special Delivery Pikachu – Black Star Promo
Market Price: $478.02
Next up is a striking Sword & Shield-era Pikachu Black Star Promo that could only be obtained via the Pokémon Center website if you spent more than $20 during a specific time frame. This promotion occurred to celebrate the opening of a new Canada-focused Pokémon Center online storefront.
Two other Special Delivery cards were distributed around this time, with the Special Delivery Charizard being tied to the United Kingdom’s Pokémon Center storefront, and a Special Delivery Bidoof – surprisingly the most valuable of the bunch – being a more limited card tied to Canada’s online storefront.
Ultimately, any time a card features Pikachu in a non-standard setting (in this case, with a devastatingly cute mail satchel and wearing a postal worker’s hat) is going to net a pretty penny, and this notable promo card certainly fits the bill.
6. Pikachu (Holo) – Pokémon Rumble, 07/16
Market Price: $638.20
The Pokémon Rumble TCG set was released in 2009 as an accompanying set to the Pokémon Rumble WiiWare video game from earlier in the same year. Interestingly, these cards could only be found in special boxes that came with its own unique take on the TCG.
Due to the extreme scarcity of this release, cards from this tiny non-standard expansion boast incredibly high prices, with Holo Pikachu leading the charge with a sky-high valuation above $600. Want a PSA 10 copy of this ’Chu? Hope you have an extra $5,600 lying around!
5. Pikachu (E3 Red Cheeks) – Base Set
Market Price: $776.58
The second and final appearance of Base Set Pikachu herein tips the scales as the most valuable Pikachu card from the TCG’s first-ever set, as well as one of the most valuable cards from that set overall – with only a select few First Edition and Shadowless cards besting it.
The E3 Red Cheeks Pikachu was distributed at the Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles in May 1999 with a unique gold stamp and is widely considered the first American Pokémon TCG promotional card. Its distinctive red-cheeked artwork was quickly replaced by the more familiar Yellow Cheeks version, making the original variant considerably rarer and more desirable among collectors.
4. Pikachu (Reverse Holo) – Legendary Collection
Market Price: $942.47
Legendary Collection Reverse Holo cards are among the holiest of grails for Pokémon TCG collectors, and this Pikachu card’s cachet among collectors was only further confirmed when a PSA 10 copy sold for a staggering $204,000 in June, besting the prior record by nearly $200k.
While a raw copy doesn’t reach that soaring record, nearly $1,000 is still quite the meaty sum for a card that was often dismissed at the time of release by young fans as looking “fake” or “ugly.” I should know, as I was one such fan who kept his Reverse Holo LC Dratini in a bulk box for years until I understood what I had. If only it had been a Charizard or Pika, I would have likely kept it safer! But hey, c’est la vie in the world of PTCG collecting.
3. Pikachu with Grey Felt Hat – Black Star Promo
Market Price: $1,106.75 (via TCGPlayer)
The Pokémon TCG has partnered with a number of fine-art establishments over the years. First it was a collaboration between The Pokémon Company and the "Munch: A Retrospective" exhibition present at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum in 2018 and 2019, which produced five incredible Munch’s The Scream-inspired cards.
Then, however, came the big one: a collaboration with the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, which saw the release of this astounding Naoyo Kimura-illustrated Pikachu promo card, which alludes to Van Gogh’s singular style. An incredible mash-up of fine art and Pokémon art, which is a combination as delightful as peanut butter and chocolate.
2. Pikachu ex (Special Illustration Rare) – Ascended Heroes, 276/217
Market Price: $1,163.57 (via TCGPlayer)
The onetime most valuable card from Ascended Heroes (now dethroned by Mega Gengar ex SIR) was this incredible Pikachu SIR, lovingly dubbed Treekachu due to its curious pose peering behind a tree, potentially in Pikachu’s first-ever in-game location of Viridian Forest (similar to one of the most valuable cards from Phantasmal Flames, the IR Meowth).
With some of the best Pikachu artwork of all time courtesy of booota (which stands as the only art ever produced for the TCG by that artist), this card boasts a verdant color palette, incredible depth of field, as well as a delightfully cozy vibe that likely appeals to almost all. Those factors combine to create a card worth well over $1,000 – though it can’t quite hit the very top of this list for one simple reason.
1. Pikachu Gold Star – Holon Phantoms
Market Price: $2,832.31
Gold Star Pokémon cards are among the most iconic – and rarest – cards from across the entire history of the TCG, so it’s no surprise to see a Gold Star card featuring the entire franchise’s mascot, Pikachu itself, top the list of most valuable Pikachu cards.
While some of the other cards herein will surely gain value over time, Pikachu Gold Star is already a blue-chip, museum-level collector’s item, and its stature as the premier Pikachu card ever will likely never be topped. Also, if you wanted a PSA 10 graded copy of Pikachu Gold Star, one sold at the end of June… for $175,000.
From Base Set oddities and gold-stamped promos to glittering modern SIRs, the most valuable English Pikachu Pokémon cards span nearly every era of the Pokémon TCG. Pikachu Gold Star remains the undisputed heavyweight of the bunch, but cards like E3 Red Cheeks Pikachu, the Legendary Collection Reverse Holo, and Ascended Heroes’ Treekachu prove that scarcity, memorable artwork, and a little slice of Pokémon history can send prices blasting off faster than a well-aimed Thunderbolt.
That should hardly come as a (Thunder)shock. Pikachu has been the face of the franchise for nearly three decades, and collectors have never stopped chasing its rarest cardboard appearances. New contenders may eventually climb the ranks, but the hobby’s most iconic yellow Mouse Pokémon is not surrendering its crown anytime soon. When it comes to valuable Pokémon cards, Pikachu remains fully charged.
