Twilight Masquerade was the eighth set from the Scarlet & Violet era of the Pokémon TCG, and it introduced one of the most notable chase Special Illustration Rares from the entirety of this epoch of the TCG: the Terastallized Greninja ex SIR.
While that card might be the most notable hit from this enjoyably rip-able release, there are a plethora of beautiful full-art cards that deserve their own chance in the spotlight. In that spirit, let’s take a look at the most valuable cards from Twilight Masquerade.

10. Hisuian Growlithe – Illustration Rare, 181/167
Market Price: $28.41
We begin with one of the cutest IRs in Twilight Masquerade, which features the adorable Rock/Fire-type Hisuian Growlithe peering up at its trainer through the thick, plush bangs that are this Growlithe variant’s trademark.

9. Kieran – Special Illustration Rare, 218/167
Market Price: $29.94
Carmine’s younger brother Kieran serves as a major character in both the Teal Mask and Indigo Disk DLC expansions for the Pokémon Scarlet & Violet video games. He is radicalized into becoming a far more forceful and intense trainer after the legendary Pokémon Ogerpon chooses to join the player-character rather than Kieran.
Ultimately, this striking SIR captures the duality of Kieran’s character, as he is a sweet young lad in the Teal Mask who mistakenly believes the player-character doesn’t believe in him as a trainer or person. It’s a rather sad misunderstanding, really. Sorry Kieran!
8. Sinistcha ex – Special Illustration Rare, 210/167
Market Price: $35.22
This SIR represents a connected artwork with its pre-evolution Poltchageist’s IR card, both of which are illustrated with aplomb by Saboteri.
Featuring striking line usage and a heavily muted sepia and green color palette, this is a lovely SIR that will only go up in value over time due to its scarcity, unique art style, and the fact that it pairs beautifully with the connected art of its pre-evolution.
7. Lana’s Aid – Special Illustration Rare, 219/167
Market Price: $38.94
Toshinao Aoki has been producing highly colorful and cartoonish artwork for the Pokémon TCG since the game’s early days, as he was responsible for the iconic Surfing Pikachu and Flying Pikachu promo cards from the TCG’s Wizards of the Coast era.
Aoki seemingly took a few years off of the TCG to focus on other projects, but he came back with a vengeance in Masquerade, delivering two of the set’s most valuable cards featuring the set’s most enjoyably cartoonish artwork, with this Lana’s Aid SIR kicking things off.
6. Bloodmoon Ursaluna ex – Special Illustration Rare, 216/167
Market Price: $47.04
While the Prismatic Evolutions Bloodmoon Ursaluna ex might be the more valuable card, I personally prefer the artwork for this rendition, which features a lush, dreamlike art style as well as three eminently adorable ‘mon in the background in the form of Ursaluna’s pre-evolution Teddiursa, Munchlax, and Cutiefly.
If you want to know what Ursaluna is thinking, it’s “tree better have my honey!”
5. Carmine – Special Illustration Rare, 217/167
Market Price: $54.35
A strikingly detailed representation of Kieran’s older sister and one of the most interesting characters from the Teal Mask DLC. While she comes across as a bit pushy and brash at first, you come to learn she has a gentle softness to her as the story progresses.
While she enjoys a good Pokémon battle, she also enjoys the pageantry of the Festival of Masks in Kitakami, as well as the shaved ice and other sweet treats that some of the festival’s vendors specialize in.
4. Chansey – Illustration Rare, 187/167
Market Price: $55.51
Here’s the next card with adorable artwork courtesy of Toshinao Aoki. Other than Base Set Chansey and Chansey ex from Ruby & Sapphire, this Chansey IR is the most valuable Chansey card around, and definitely the most valuable modern Chansey card.
With art showcasing an overworked Chansey helping out a Pokémon Center as Snorlax snoozes, Ditto looks on, and Psyduck says “Psy-aye-aye,” (probably, at least), this is an action-packed composition and helps make the card surely deserving of its over-$50 price tag.
3. Eevee – Illustration Rare, 188/167
Market Price: $93.28
What’s better than a Pokémon card with Eevee on it? How about a Pokémon card with eight Eevee on it! That’s right, this Narumi Sato-illustrated Eevee IR featuring a splendid eight Eevee on it, each one looking cuter than the last.
While the veritable “focus” of the piece is the Eevee that’s centered in the middle on the arm of the chair, my personal favorite is the one playfully chomping on a Hydreigon plush toy. Which Eevee is your favorite on this terrific IR?
2. Perrin – Special Illustration Rare, 220/167
Market Price: $166.45
And here, finally, is the connected artwork with the Hisuian Growlithe IR. Perrin is a rather mysterious character from the Teal Mask and Indigo Disk DLC expansions who plays a major role in the Teal Mask and a very minute role in Indigo Disk.
Either way, she absolutely adores her Hisuian Growlithe, and the feeling is mutual, as this connected art conveys. It’s always nice to see a Trainer and their partner Pokémon show so much love to each other.
1. Greninja ex – Special Illustration Rare, 214/167
Market Price: $360.13
Much like Chaos Rising's Mega Greninja ex SIR and MHP, one of the singular grails from the entire Scarlet & Violet era of the TCG is this Greninja ex SIR, which features a swirling smorgasbord of energy surrounding Froakie’s final evolution as it employs Terastallization as well as the ‘mon’s signature Water Shuriken attack.
A dazzling array of red, orange, and yellow colors represents Greninja’s powerful attacking capabilities in this akagi-illustrated modern masterpiece, which looks as if Greninja is trying to audition for a mural-painting job in your local town center. With artwork this vibrant and colorful, this ‘mon gets my vote!
