Down 2-1 in the first round of the playoffs following two devastating one-point losses to the Atlanta Hawks that followed divergent paths, but reached the same terrible conclusion, it briefly felt like the New York Knicks were facing the end of an era last week. And, when that happens in New York, it tends to precede large-scale change.
No one on the roster outside of the Roommates, Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart, seemed safe, with names like Giannis Antetokounmpo, Kawhi Leonard, and even LeBron James floating somewhere in the ether. That meant there was no time like the present for native son Karl-Anthony Towns to stop being an enigma and start being the domineering facilitator we all knew he could be.
Towns, of course, proceeded from that pivot point to have potentially the three most impactful games of his playoff career (though Game 5 in Indiana last year probably merits mention). Things spiraled so spectacularly that Towns barely even scored in the Game 6 clincher and still felt like he had the game's most outsized impact, hitting his first field goal midway through the third (as the lead swelled to 50) after a torrent of spectacular passes.
Things could change tomorrow, of course. Such is the beast of burden that is the Knicks' organization. Expectations are high. No one is glued to the roster. The first round is just the first round, after all, as so many scornful "celebration shamers" always like to tell Knicks fans when they're having too much fun in the streets of their city.
At this moment, though, Towns feels like a foundational piece, fulfilling his tri-state area destiny and fitting in beautifully on an offense that always looks better when he's heavily involved.
And this moment - this moment right here - is the moment where a collector on stream pulling a 1/1 Karl-Anthony Towns superfractor out of 2025-26 Topps Cosmic Chrome, inscribed with a "NY Forever" tag, feels the most special. What a pull under any circumstances, but what a pull when the relief of an entire city lands on your substantial shoulders, and you get to see something like this midway through the exhale.

Karl-Anthony Towns 2025-26 Topps Cosmic Chrome 1/1 Autograph is a Knicks fan's dream
Cosmic Chrome isn't for the faint of heart in any sport, but the brand-new licensed Topps NBA version - dropping right as the playoffs reach their apex (April 29, to be specific) - is poised to be particularly spicy.
Towns dropping a special memo to whichever collector pulled this golden nugget would've resonated regardless of when it dropped - and the pricing ripple effects would've been pristine - but right now, it just feels extra potent to see The Big Bodega use this one-of-a-kind card to express his affinity for, and underscore his relationship to, the City That Never Sleeps.
None of us can sleep right now after Thursday's emphatic blowout-of-all-blowouts in Atlanta, and hopefully this euphoric video is something we can continue to refer back to as Towns puts on for his city once more next week.
