Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is a man on a mission. After putting together a regular season for the ages that has him as a heavy favorite to win back-to-back MVP awards, Gilgeous-Alexander has somehow taken his game to another level and has the Thunder looking like the team to beat in the NBA playoffs. To say that card collectors have taken notice is a bit of an understatement.
Players like Gilgeous-Alexander in any sport are somewhat odd when it comes to collecting. At a certain point, a star player doing star player things is to be expected and familiarly excellent performances won't really make their card markets jump all that much. It feels more like they have little to gain and everything to lose. If you want proof, go look at rookie card prices anytime a top player gets hurt.
However, Gilgeous-Alexander's current playoff dominance feels different. Not only does it feel like he has leveled up in the eyes of fans and experts, but his cards are hitting numbers that they have never hit before.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander's insane Thunder playoff run has his card market reaching new heights
Again, there are some limits here. If you look at some of Gilgeous-Alexander's tougher inserts from 2025-26 Topps Chrome Basketball, for example, they have remained relatively flat in terms of sales. There is little recent sales data, and they were already selling at high prices, so this isn't a boon for the market across the board.
However, in anticipation of his next MVP award and a potential deep playoff run, collectors are flocking to Gilgeous-Alexander's rookie cards. Take his base rookies from 2018 Panini Donruss Optic and 2018 Panini Prizm. The previous high price for a raw copy of his Optic rookie card came in March 2025, when you could get one for $24. Since the playoffs started, the price has rocketed past that and now sits at almost $32. You had to pay $32 for his Prizm RC in March 2025, whereas now the price sits at $36 and climbing.
The picture is a bit cloudier when it comes to Gilgeous-Alexander's rookie autos. His autos from 2018 Prizm reached a previous high of $605 in January 2026 and, after a modest dip, they are shooting up to $629 with no signs of slowing down. However, his 2018 Optic rookie autos have mostly remained flat and haven't eclipsed their high of $750 earlier this year...yet.
Honestly, if you were hoping to get in on the ground floor of Gilgeous-Alexander's market, that ship has long since sailed. That said, if the Thunder keep bulldozing through the postseason and Gilgeous-Alexander remains at the forefront, we could see his cards go significantly higher.
