Usually it's not the case, but sometimes? The internet is great. When athletes or public figures are particularly active on social media, they have occasional golden opportunities to hear the rumor mill building and buzzing, absorb it, and confirm what's floating around in one fell swoop. That's what New York Knicks recently minted NBA champion Karl-Anthony Towns had the pleasure of doing this week after Topps' official account hinted at one of his latest scores.
KAT is a well-established collector at this point, building his bonafides this past season by ripping packs on YouTube (and appearing at public events around the release of Topps' flagship NBA product). A few weeks back, he also flirted with obtaining his own Topps Chrome superfractor after it was yanked from a pack - and we know he's got a 1/5 Victor Wembanyama auto from the same product to dangle in any trade. He's also in a unique position to be able to devalue that himself; after all, the more times he defeats Wemby in the Finals, the further the card's value plummets. Sell now, KAT!
In case you doubted how much money Towns is interested in sinking into this hobby of ours, he surfaced again this week to confirm he dropped $900,000 on an Aaron Judge 1-of-1 dual auto Logoman depicting his back-to-back MVP seasons from 2024 and 2025. The card features Judge's signature, a "back-to-back MVP" inscription, and gold patches from (presumably) the past two campaigns. It doesn't even look real, but if you want to visit ... Towns will happily show you.

Now, KAT, listen up. I know how much fun it is now, being able to chop it up with New York sports icons and then nab the cards of your close friends. It starts out light - $900,000 here, $1.2 million there. But eventually, you get hooked. And you start spending some serious coin.
Take it from me, your friend who's just looking out for you? Give it a little break, and get this card in particular out of your house and out of sight/out of mind for a little bit. I'm happy to give it some safe-keeping while you're thinking things over. It really wouldn't be a problem for me whatsoever.
