Diamondbacks Nick Evans Slugs His Way to PCL Player of the Week

The Pacific Coast League is certainly known for being a hitter’s paradise. The Reno Aces jack-of-all-trades Nick Evans made sure the PCL remained a power happy haven. The 12-year Minor League veteran took home his first PCL Player of the Week Award this past week.

Evans is the 29-year old first baseman, third baseman and corner outfielder for the Arizona Diamondbacks Triple-A affiliate. He was the New York Mets fifth round pick back in 2004 at the age of 18 and was up and down between the Mets big league roster and farm for 8 years before making a pit stop in Pittsburgh and heading to Arizona.

Evans has always had pop in his bat and is off to a fast start in 2015. After an 18-game stint with the Diamondbacks in 2014, he is sure to see some time in the Majors this season, especially with his versatility in being able to play any corner position on the field.

This past week, Evans hit successfully in all six game while scoring at least one run in each game as well. He went 12-for-26 (.426 average) and raised his season slash line to an impressive .314/.366/.547.

Evans was a run producing machine as he not only amassed four multi-hit games but four consecutive multi-RBI games as well. He scored right runs, belted three home runs and drove in 13 on the week. His hit, run and RBI total for the week were tops in he PCL. Evans also added three doubles into the mix, giving him 24 total bases on the week, which was tied for the most in the PCL.

Fellow 29-year old Minor League veteran Matt Hague took home the International League Player of the Week Award with a monster week as well. The Buffalo Bisons first baseman put together four multi-hit games, including three in a row, en route to a 12 hit week. He hit an astonishing eight doubles in one week giving him an International League leading 15 on the season. Hague scored four runs while driving in 9 more.

It was Hague’s first Player of the Week Award in two years when he claimed the award for the Pittsburgh Pirates Indianapolis Indians. Hague is now slashing .345/.421/.482 on the season with 25 runs scored and 31 RBI.
