Yankees Hensley Recovering After Brutal Attack

Former New York Yankees first round pick Ty Hensley is home recovering after being hospitalized after what is being called a brutal attack at his home over the holidays. Scott Alfano of Yanks Go Yard reports that specific details of the attack are still being investigated, but we do know that the attack happened during the holidays at his home in Oklahoma City.

His status for the upcoming season is still undetermined. Hensley’s attorney, Rob Martin of ICON Sports, release the following statement:

"Ty was treated and released from the hospital and is presently recovering at home from the injuries he sustained after being knocked unconscious in this vicious attack. Ty and his family are grateful for all of the support, thoughts, and prayers he’s received from friends, fans, and well-wishers. We respectfully request privacy during this difficult time.For those of us that know Ty best, this attack was shocking and disturbing both in its severity as well as the fact that it could not have happened to a nicer, more good-natured young man. While Ty always handles adversity remarkably well, he’s taken it to a new level in meeting this challenge head on. His pain tolerance, attitude and determination to get back on the mound as soon as possible are literally off-the-charts. This is a young man with rare character and unbelievable toughness."

Hensley was the Yankees 2012 first round pick, selected 30th overall directly out of high school. After his 2012 debut, Hensley suffered an abdominal strain in the Dominican Instructional League. It led to hip surgery which led to Hensley missing the entire 2013 season. The 6’4”, 220 pound righty rebound nicely in his 2014 return posting a 2.93 ERA with an 11.7 strikeout per nine ratio over 10 starts at two levels.
