Trade Deadline Prospect Recap: Jake Marisnick, Colin Moran, Mitch Haniger, and Everyone Else

Yesterday’s trading deadline was one of the busiest in recent memory, and while all the headlines were crammed with all the all stars who changed teams, a slew of notable prospects went with or for them.

*For the purposes of this post, all prospect rankings are from MLB.com.

>On Wednesday, the Cardinals kicked things off by sending their sixth overall prospect, outfielder James Ramsey,  to the Indians for veteran starter Justin Masterson.

That was just about it for July 30th, then on Thursday, we saw a flurry of moves.

>The Red Sox dealt John Lackey to the Cardinals for Allen Craig and Joe Kelley. 22 year old left handed pitching prospect Corey Littrell is headed to St. Louis in the trade.

>Milwaukee sent its 8th best prospect, outfielder Mitch Haniger, and 20 year old left-hander Anthony Banda to the Diamondbacks for Gerardo Parra

>Seattle moved rookie outfielder Abraham Almonte and minor league reliever Stephen Kohlscheen to the Padres for outfielder Chris Denorfia.

>Baltimore traded their #3 prospect, left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez, to Boston for lefty reliever Andrew Miller.

>The Marlins pulled off a complex deal, sending 23 year old center-fielder Jake Marisnick and Colin Moran their #3 prospect, along with 18 year old Frances Martes to Houston for starter Jarred Cosart, utility man Enrique Hernandez and outfielder Austin Wates.

>The Yankees plucked Martin Prado from the Diamondbacks, sending their #9 prospect, power hitting catcher Peter O’Brien in exchange.

>In the day’s biggest blockbuster, a three-team deal, the Rays traded ace David Price to the Tigers,  acquiring shortstop Nick Franklin from the Mariners and lefty Drew Smyly from Detroit. Detroit also sent center-fielder Austin Jackson to Seattle and, 18 year old shortstop Willy Adames, the Tigers’ #3 prospect, came over to Tampa as the only prospect involved.

>The Indians traded shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera to the Nationals for their #14 prospect, shortstop Zach Walters. Though no announcement has been made as of yet, but this would appear to be open the door for top prospect Francisco Lindor, the 5th best prospect in baseball, to join the tribe.

>The Braves picked up left James Russell and Emilio Bonifacio for their #7 prospect, catcher Victor Caratini.

So who do you think got the best deal? the best prospect?
