Notes from Around the Minors: Law, Biddle, Brewers,

Just Some Minor League links and stories on the anniversary of the day an 18 year old Joe Morgan signed with the the Houston Colt 45′s, a franchise now known as the Astros.  The short second baseman would go on to win back to back MVP Awards and be voted to ten all star games, although most of that came with Cardinals;  top Houston second base prospect Delino Deshields has a lot to live up to.

Keith Law continues his prospect week with a top ten list for every National League team. He did the American League yesterday, a top 100 prospect list the day before, and a ranking of all the farm systems in baseball before that. They’re good reads but you’ll need an Insider account to access them.

David Laurila of Fangraphs did a Q&A with Phillies Prospect Jesse Biddle, where they discuss injuries, command struggles, and developing his repertoire.  Biddle went 5-14 with a 5.3 BB/9 in Double-A in 2013 but had been ranked by Baseball America as the 89th prospect in baseball prior to the season. With the Phillies seriously lacking in pitching depth, he could see major league time this summer.

Minorleagueball’s John Sickels gives his take on the Brewers’ farm system. It’s not a favorable one.

Matt Mattingly of Fake Teams takes a look at Cub prospect Dan Vogelbach‘s future fantasy value. Vogelbach’s actual potential is limited by his defense, but his bat is strong enough that he could be a valuable fantasy sleeper.
