This tidbit eluded my attention the first time but the trade between the Oakland A’s and the Washington Nationals netted the A’s a nice prospect in the deal. OF Billy Burns heads to Oakland after a very strong season reaching Double-A Harrisburg for the Nationals organization. He doesn’t have much power, but Burns got on base at a .425 clip over the whole season (at two levels) and he has outstanding speed.

In return, the Nats get left-handed reliever Jerry Blevins.

Well, we finally have a little bit of something to talk about although not much that deals with prospects. As expected, the Miami Marlins have traded Logan Morrison and they trade him to the Seattle Mariners for 23 year old fireballing righty Carter Capps (no I didn’t make his name up).

Capps’s high ERA last year is likely an aberration; his FIP and xFIP were much lower than his ERA and he had a very good strikeout to walk ratio. While he’s technically not a prospect, he’s a good, young arm that the Marlins get for LoMo.

Well, here we are, most of the way through the morning on Day 3 of the Winter Meetings. We had a couple of big moves yesterday with the three-way trade between the Angels, the Diamondbacks and the White Sox. Late last night, we found out that prospect Brandon Jacobs was the last player to be named in the deal and he’s heading to Arizona from Chicago.

We also had the Oakland/Colorado trade that involved Brett Anderson going for Drew Pomeranz and Chris Jensen so there were a few young pitchers involved in that deal and we told you about a couple of them here on GOTC.

Aside from that, we’re waiting for the next shoe to drop and we’ll let you know when we hear about it!
