Arizona Fall League Championship Game Thread

Congratulations to the Surprise Saguaros, the 2013 Arizona Fall League Champions!

TOP 9: Milwaukee’s David Goforth comes in to nail down the save for the Saguaros. A delayed strike 3 call by the home plate umpire finishes the game.

END 8: Mike Morin (Angels) gets out the jam with no more damage. Going to the Solar Sox last chance to score in the top of the ninth, it’s Surprise in the lead 2-0.

BOTTOM 8: Mookie Betts gets a base hit up the middle to drive in Schoop. 2-0 for Surprise. Mike Morin now relieves for Knebel who comes out of the game after giving up the run.

BOTTOM 8: A passed ball by Adrian Nieto gets Schoop over to 3rd with one out and Tyler Naquin at bat.

BOTTOM 8: Corey Knebel (Detroit) comes in for Mesa and Jonathan Schoop rips one by Addison Russell on the first pitch for a base hit.

END 8: A 1-2-3 8th for Kela, going to the bottom of 8, Surprise leads 1-0.

TOP 8: Texas’s fireballer Keone Kela comes into the game for Surprise.

BOTTOM 7: Kris Bryant makes an easy play, throwing out Jorge Alfaro on a weak bouncer to third to end the inning. After 7, 1-0 Surprise.

BOTTOM 7: Henry Urrutia drops the bat head on a pitch on the low-inside corner and drives it over the wall on a hop for a ground-rule double.

MID 7: Noe Ramirez flashes his impressive changeup, striking out the side in the seventh around a base hit from Taylor Lindsey.

TOP 7: Boston’s Noe Ramirez comes on for Surprise in the seventh inning.

BOTTOM 6: Urlaub strikes again, picking off Mookie Betts from first. Garin Cecchini flies out to center to end the inning. 1-0 Surprise after 6.

BOTTOM 6: Jeff Urlaub picks off Tyler Naquin at first to clear the bases but walks Mookie Betts two pitches later.

BOTTOM 6: A’s SS Addison Russell is charged with another error but really, 1B C.J. Cron should have had the throw. 1-on, no one out.

BOTTOM 6: Oakland lefty Jeff Urlaub is on for Mesa now.

MID 6: Tim Berry blows one by C.J. Cron to strike him out and end the Mesa threat. Going to the bottom half, Surprise clings to a 1-0 lead.

TOP 6: Kris Bryant pops out in foul ground. 2 outs with the bases loaded with the league’s leading hitter, C.J. Cron, up at bat.

TOP 6: Tim Berry flubs a come-backer and loads the bases for Kris Bryant with 1 out.

TOP 6: A walk and a base hit against Berry puts two on and one out for Mesa.

TOP 6: Tim Berry on to pitch for Surprise. Another lefty is likely to keep giving the Solar Sox batters trouble.

BOTTOM 5: Joe Wendle grounds out to second base to finish a 1-2-3 inning as Dallas Beeler completes five innings, giving up just one run with 5 strikeouts.

MIDDLE 5: Rocking a moustache, Tyler Cravy gets out of the fifth with the shutout intact. He struck out Tyler Collins between fly balls to left field by Souza and Bandy.

TOP 5: Henry Urrutia catches Steven Souza’s long fly ball to left field at the wall for a loud first out.

BOTTOM4: Despite an error and a walk, Dallas Beeler gets out of the 4th inning without a run. It’s still 1-0 Surprise.

TOP 4: After giving up a base hit to start the inning, Cravy strikes out Kris Bryant for out number 1. Jorge Alfaro throws out Devon Travis with a bullet. 2 outs.

TOP 4: Brewers’ Tyler Cravy takes over on the mound for Surprise.

BOTTOM 3: 3-up, 3-down for Dallas Beeler including a strikeout. 1-0 Surprise after 3.

BOTTOM 3: Cubs prospect getting some Roy Halladay comparisons with his pitching mechanics. 1 out.

MID 3: Eduardo Rodriguez gets a 1-2-3 inning. Heading into the bottom, Surprise leads 1-0.

TOP 3: Eduardo Rodriguez racks up strikeout #4, getting Tigers’ Tyler Collins on a breaking ball in the dirt.

BOTTOM 2: Jorge Alfaro follows Urrutia with a line-drive single to center that scores Urrutia. Alfaro was thrown out trying to take second base on the throw home to end the inning. After 2, it’s 1-0 Surprise.

BOTTOM 2: Henry Urrutia is getting compared to former Yankees CF Bernie Williams after a long double to dead center field.

TOP 2: Eduardo Rodriguez gets out of the inning with a groundout by Jorge Soler. He’s got 3 strikeouts already.

TOP 2: Souza’s luck runs out as Texas prospect Jorge Alfaro throws him out stealing second.

TOP 2: Steven Souza gets a base hit up the middle and gets a break when sliding back into 1st on a pickoff. Replays show he should have been out but he got the benefit of the doubt from the ump.

END 1: Dallas Beeler strikes out Garin Cecchini on 3 pitches to end the first inning in 10 pitches.
