MiLB.com started announcing its annual MiLBy Awards, and will wrap up the announcements this coming week. So far, the Best Offensive Player, Pitcher of the Year and Relief Pitcher of the Year winners have been revealed. For each category, MiLB.com unveils their staff choice as well as the winner of the fan vote.

And here’s the upcoming schedule of award announcements:

  • Monday: Game of the Year
  • Tuesday: Team of the Year
  • Wednesday: Breakout Prospect of the Year
  • Thursday: Photo of the Year, Promotion of the Year, Mascot Clip of the Year
  • Friday: Moment of the Year, Play of the Year, Home Run of the Year, Blooper of the Year

You can check out all the candidates at the MiLBY Awards page, but here are a couple must-see clips I wanted to share. The first is Alden Carrithers’ dare devil catch that’s a candidate for Play of the Year:

Maybe the most remarkable part of that play is Carrithers, playing for the Gwinnett Braves, remained in the game. While that play certainly takes your breath away in terms of shock value, one of the candidates for Moment of the Year may have you gasping for air from laughter. You may be plenty familiar with walk-off wins, but have you ever seen a run-off victory?

That’s Pat Cantwell legging out a game-ending infield single, then zigzagging all around the outfield trying to avoid his teammates looking to mob him in celebration. That clip gives new meaning to the phrase “runs well for a catcher.”
