Despite starter Kyle Crick going only an inning and two-thirds for the Scottsdale Scorpions, the bullpen shut the door and allowed Scottsdale to defeat the Glendale Desert Dogs 5-1. Crick only gave up one run but walked three and struck out three in his brief appearance. Adalberto Mejia came on to give the club three and a third outstanding innings of relief, giving up just one hit and striking out five. It was a real team effort on the offensive side although Kyle Kubitza had a pair of hits including a triple. Scottsdale also took advantage of a couple of errors by the Desert Dogs and only registered three RBI out of their five runs. DH Andrew Susac also had a strong game, going one for one with a sac fly and two walks.

The Glendale pitchers weren’t helped by their defense but the lack of control came back to hurt them. Overall, the club walked seven batters including two by starter Andrew Heaney (who gave up one run on three hits with three strikeouts in four innings), and two each by relievers Edgar Olmos (one inning) and Zack Jones (two runs in one inning). Glendale only had two hits on the night including a home run by Brian Cavazos Galvez.

The Peoria Javelinas club hammered out an incredible fifteen hits but still only managed to beat the Salt River Rafters by a score of 5-3. Peoria’s offense was running on almost all cylinders with all but one of the nine hitters getting at least one hit and six of them getting at least two hits. Chris Taylor had a single, a triple and a walk, Cameron Rupp had a single and a double with two RBI, Japhet Amador had three singles, Jorge Bonifacio had a single and a double, and Tommy Medica and Patrick Kivlehan each had two singles. While Cameron Perkins didn’t get a hit, he did walk twice and score two runs.  The pitchers were very solid with Alex Sogard, Adys Portillo, Angel Baez and Mike Nesseth pitching two innings each. Neither Sogard nor Nesseth gave up a run and Portillo allowed one and Baez two despite Baez having the team-high four strikeouts.

For Salt River, starter Grayson Garvin got hammered, surrendering nine hits and four runs over just three and a third innings, He was followed by Henry Garcia who put out the flames, inheriting the bases loaded but not allowing any further runs. Garcia also struck out three batters out of the seven he faced. DH Kyle Parker led the charge for the hitters, going two for four with a double, a home run and two RBI. Catcher Derrick Chung had a great game, going three for three and catching one of the two runners attempting to steal.
