Today we’re back with a look at the next group of ten from Nathaniel’s 2012 S2S Top-100 list. If you’d like to check out the review/recap of prospects from previous installments of this review, click here (#71-80), here (#81-90) and here (#91-100).

Just three of the ten in this section of the Top-100 increased their stock, by my estimation, in 2012. However, those three turned in quite impressive seasons at their respective levels. Two of the below group spent time in the majors and one of those (Lombardozzi) has traded in the mantle of prospect for that of major leaguer.

In a significant departure from the first three articles I’ve done in this review, nearly all of these players spent the entire season at one level with Jackson being the only exception.

#61:  Robbie Grossman – OF – Houston Astros

Profile Published – 11/7/2011
2012 – Altoona (AA-PIT): 0.266/.378/.406, 20 2B, 4 3B, 7 HR, 9 SB, 59 BB and 78 SO in 417 PA
2012 – Corpus Christi (AA-HOU): 0.267/.371/.422, 8 2B, 2 3B, 3 HR, 4 SB, 18 BB and 43 SO in 160 PA
Best Month – June: 0.312/.424/.532 in 90 PA with Altoona
Worst Month – April: 0.195/.295/.280 in 95 PA with Altoona

Stock Up/Down – Down, but held his own in moving to Double-A and the trade to Houston gives him a clearer and less cluttered path to the majors.

#62:  Keyvius Sampson – RHP – San Diego Padres

Profile Published – 11/6/2011
2012 – San Antonio (AA): 5.00 ERA, 1.35 WHIP, 108 H, 57 BB and 122 SO in 122.1 IP
Best Month – July: 29.1 IP, 25 H, 10 ER, 4 BB and 26 SO
Worst Month – June: 21.2 IP, 17 H, 17 ER, 17 BB and 24 SO

Stock Up/Down – Down, but not as much as the numbers alone would suggest. He pitched much better in the second half and the fact that he jumped from Fort Wayne (A) to San Antonio has to be factored in.

#63:  Archie Bradley – RHP – Arizona Diamondbacks

Profile Published – 11/5/2011
2012 – South Bend (A): 3.84 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, 87 H, 84 BB and 152 SO in 136.0 IP
Best Month – April: 26.0 IP, 8 H, 6 ER, 14 BB and 30 SO
Worst Month – May: 28.1 IP, 22 H, 19 ER, 17 BB and 22 SO

Stock Up/Down – Up

#64:  Eric Surkamp – LHP – San Francisco Giants

Profile Published – 11/4/2011
2012 – Injured – Did Not Pitch
Best Month – Injured
Worst Month – Injured

Stock Up/Down – Down. Surkamp had an outside chance to make the Giant’s Opening Day roster this year but was lost at the end of March due to an elbow injury. He underwent Tommy John surgery in July and won’t return to the mound until the second half of 2013 at the earliest.

#65:  Jonathan Singleton – 1B – Houston Astros

Profile Published – 11/3/2011
2012 –  Corpus Christi (AA): 0.284/.396/.497, 27 2B, 4 3B, 21 HR, 7 SB, 88 BB and 131 SO in 555 PA
Best Month – April: 0.350/.435/.600 in 102 PA
Worst Month – June: 0.148/.317/.235 in 101 PA

Stock Up/Down – Up, and with a good deal of helium.

#66:  Steve Lombardozzi – 2B – Washington Nationals

Profile Published – 11/2/2011
2012 – Washington (MLB): 0.273/.317/.354, 16 2B, 3 3B, 3 HR, 5 SB, 19 BB and 46 SO in 416 PA
Best Month – May: 0.348/.392/.435 in 75 PA
Worst Month – June: 0.156/.217/.250 in 69 PA

Stock Up/Down – Up. Established himself as a major league regular in 2012 and didn’t spend any time in the minors in 2012.

#67:  Julio Rodriguez – RHP – Philadelphia Phillies

Profile Published – 11/1/2011
2012 – Reading (AA): 4.23 ERA, 1.47 WHIP, 121 H, 76 BB and 136 SO in 134.0 IP
Best Month – May: 32.2 IP, 25 H, 8 ER, 17 BB and 32 SO
Worst Month – July: 26.0 IP, 26 H, 19 ER, 20 BB and 28 SO

Stock Up/Down – Down

#68:  Cheslor Cuthbert – 3B – Kansas City Royals

Profile Published – 10/31/2011
2012 – Wilmington (A+): 0.240/.296/.322, 18 2B, 7 HR, 6 SB, 37 BB and 80 SO in 517 PA
Best Month – August: 0.316/.343/.367 in 102 PA
Worst Month – May: 0.216/.283/.278 in 106 PA

Stock Up/Down – Down, but just slightly as age relative to his level needs to be factored in.

#69:  Brett Jackson – OF – Chicago Cubs

Profile Published – 10/30/2011
2012 – Iowa (AAA): 0.256/.338/.479, 22 2B, 12 3B, 15 HR, 27 SB, 47 BB and 158 SO in 467 PA
2012 – Chicago (MLB): 0.175/.303/.342, 6 2B, 1 3B, 4 HR, 22 BB and 59 SO in 142 PA
Best Month – June: 0.282/.352/.545 in 121 PA with Iowa
Worst Month – September: 0.116/.240/.140 in 50 PA with Chicago

Stock Up/Down – Down

#70:  Michael Choice – OF – Oakland Athletics

Profile Published – 10/29/2011
2012 Midland (AA): 0.287/.356/.423, 15 2B, 2 3B, 10 HR, 5 SB, 33 BB and 88 SO in 402 PA
Best Month – July: 0.435/.493/.710 in 67 PA
Worst Month – June: 0.243/.278/.388 in 107 PA

Stock Up/Down – Down, as his SLG dropped off 119 points drop in his SLG. But, it’s not all negative as he was catching fire when he fractured his hand and was lost for the year in July.
