Prospect Pulse: August 14th, 2012 - Matt Magill and Daniel Muno

The Prospect Pulse is a recap of some of the top performances in the minors from the previous day. Prospects are sorted by the league in which they play with their parent club listed in parentheses. In each of the 14 leagues this series follows I will select what I feel is the single best performance and may mix in a few “honorable” mentions as well. Then at the end of each days’ recap I will pick a hitter and pitcher of the day from among the 14+ players covered.

Florida State League (A+)

2B – Daniel Muno, St. Lucie (NY Mets): 4-4, 3B, HR, 2 RBI, 2 R

Muno’s stock tumbled when he was suspended 50 games after testing positive for an anabolic steroid back in May.  He returned to action on July 17th and hit 0.229/.441/.279 for the remainder of the month as he worked to knock the rust off. Since the calendar flipped to August his bat has come to life as evidenced by his 0.368/.429/.553 slash line in 10 games.

LHP – Sean Nolin, Dunedin (Toronto): 5.0 IP, 4 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 10 SO

Eastern League (AA)

LF – Donald Lutz, Pensacola (Cincinnati): 4-5, 2 HR, 3 RBI, 3 R

RHP – Matt Magill, Chattanooga (LA Dodgers): 7.0 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 11 SO

If you have a feeling of deja vu it’s probably because Magill was the Prospect Pulse Pitcher of the Day less than two weeks ago. His 7.1 IP, 5 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 12 SO performance on August 4th was outstanding but he was even more dominant on Tuesday. He now has a 2.75 ERA with a 66-14 SO-to-BB in his last 59.0 innings of work. Overall he’s struck out 147 hitters this year which ranks 5th in the minors.

Texas League (AA)

International League (AAA)

RHP – Julio Teheran, Gwinnett (Atlanta): 8.0 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 9 SO

RHP – Jeurys Familia, Buffalo (NY Mets): 7.0 IP, 4 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 8 SO

Pacific Coast League (AAA)

RHP – Jake Odorizzi, Omaha (Kansas City): 7.0 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 4 SO
