The Prospect Pulse is a recap of some of the top performances in the minors from the previous day. Prospects are sorted by the league in which they play with their parent club listed in parentheses. In each of the 14 leagues this series follows I will select what I feel is the single best performance and may mix in a few “honorable” mentions as well. Then at the end of each days’ recap I will pick a hitter and pitcher of the day from among the 14+ players covered.

Appalachian League (Rk)

2B – Levi Hyams, Danville (Atlanta):  3-5, 2 2B, HR, RBI, 2 R

Pioneer League (Rk)

3B – Jake Lamb, Missoula (Arizona): 3-4, HR, 7 RBI, R

New York-Penn League (A-)

CF – Brandon Nimmo, Brooklyn (NY Mets): 4-6, 2B, HR, 2 RBI, 3 R

Northwest League (A-)

1B – Taylor Ard, Everett (Seattle): 2-3, 2B, HR, 2 RBI, 3 R, 2 BB

Midwest League (A)

RF – Yeison Asencio, Fort Wayne (San Diego): 5-5, 2 2B, HR, 4 RBI, 2 R

The 22-year old, formerly known as Yoan Alcantara, signed out of the Dominican and made his US debut in the AZL last season. While there he hit 0.348/.367/.586 in 50 games. This season, with Fort Wayne, he’s hitting 0.322/.353/.511 in 61 games and is 20-43 in his last 10. While he hasn’t been drawing a ton of walks, he offsets that by only striking out in approximately 10% of his plate appearances.

RHP – Aaron Brooks, Kane County (Kansas City): 9.0 IP, 8 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 SO

South Atlantic League (A)

LHP – Tyler Anderson, Asheville (Colorado): 7.0 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 SO

LF – Chase Anselment, Rome (Atlanta): 2-3, 2 HR, 3 RBI, 3 R, BB

California League (A+)

DH – Taylor Lindsey, Inland Empire (LA Angels): 3-3, 3B, HR, 2 RBI, 2 R

Carolina League (A+)

LF – Dan Brewer, Lynchburg (Atlanta): 4-5, 2B, 3B, HR, 3 RBI, 2 R

RHP – Cody Martin, Lynchburg (Atlanta): 7.0 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 9 SO

Martin had scuffled in his previous 2 starts before Sunday’s outing. He had allowed 14 hits and 15 runs (7 of them earned) with a 8-5 SO-to-BB in 7.2 IP. Despite that ugly blip on his resume he has a 2.23 ERA and 61-to-10 SO-to-BB in his last 48.1 innings of work. The Braves #19 prospect heading into the season has clearly taken to his role in the Lynchburg rotation and appears to be putting his days as a reliever firmly in the past. Martin’s 118 SO in 101.1 IP this season rank 2nd in the Carolina League and he’s just 3 behind his Hillcats rotation-mate Aaron Northcraft.

Florida State League (A+)

LHP – Adam Morgan, Clearwater (Philadelphia): 8.0 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 0 BB, 9 SO

Eastern League (AA)

1B – Darin Ruf, Reading (Philadelphia): 2-4, 2 2B, 2 RBI, R, BB

RHP – Ryan Perry, Harrisburg (Washington): 6.0 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 4 SO

Southern League (AA)

RHP – Andre Rienzo, Birmingham (Chicago White Sox): 7.0 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 3 BB, 9 SO

Texas League (AA)

LF – Ryan Strausborger, Frisco (Texas): 2-3, 2B, HR, 3 RBI, 2 R, BB, SB

RHP – Mike Piazza, Arkansas (LA Angels): 6.2 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 5 SO

International League (AAA)

1B – Carlos Rivero, Syracuse (Washington): 3-4, 2B, HR, 2 RBI, 2 R

RHP – Chad Reineke, Louisville (Cincinnati): 7.1 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 9 SO

Pacific Coast League (AAA)

RF – Jerry Sands, Albuquerque (LA Dodgers): 2-4, 2 HR, 8 RBI, 2 R

LHP – Tyler Skaggs, Reno (Arizona): 7.0 IP, 6 H, 1 ER, 3 BB, 10 SO
