2012 S2S Mid-Season All-Stars: Pacific Coast League

Tomorrow night (7/11) the Pacific Coast and International Leagues will match their All-Star rosters up against one another in Buffalo, New York. The Bisons are the host team for the event which happens to be the 25th installment of the Triple-A All-Star Game.
The 30-player PCL roster was revealed on June 28th and was selected in a very all inclusive “shotgun” approach. Instead of attempting to explain it, I’ll just quote the method directly:
13 “elected” by club managers and general managers, media members and through online fan voting; 17 “selected” by the league office; and at least one from each of the 16 clubs.
As you (hopefully) know by now, we here at S2S are selecting our own All-Star teams for each of the full season leagues in the minors which leads us to some of the rules being applied to our roster.
To qualify for a S2S team, players had to spend the bulk of the first half of the season and still be in the league at the time of our selections. Another point to make about our picks is that they are based solely on 2012 statistical performance. Whether a player is his organization’s top prospect or just roster filler is immaterial to us when it comes to our selections.
Before I list off the players that did make the team there were a number of guys that deserve a mention here. First up is New Orleans infielder Nick Green who just missed the service time cutoff of 45 G. Two other players that were having wonderful seasons but didn’t make the roster are Fresno OF Roger Kieschnick – who is on the 7-day disabled list and hasn’t played since May 29th – and 1B Randy Ruiz who was released by Reno at the beginning of June. Recent big league promotions also took Iowa 1B Anthony Rizzo and Tuscon C Yasmani Grandal out of the running.
With a 16 team league and just a 17 player roster, space on this team is awfully tight. As you would likely expect not all teams are represented in the below, but given that New Orleans, Omaha and Reno placed 9 players between the three of them and Las Vegas and Albuquerque each placed two, seven PCL franchises are without representation below. Sacramento, Tacoma and Tuscon each landed one player on the S2S team to round out the final spots and left Colorado Springs, Iowa, Memphis, Nashville, Oklahoma City, Round Rock and Salt Lake on the outside looking in.
