Sprouts: Thanks, Trout, Soler and Shopshire

facebooktwitterreddit

With the tragic loss of Greg Halman and details of the new CBA being released, two more items have been added to my pile of pending articles. With any luck I will be able to write about one – or both – in the next few days but with Thanksgiving and the associated family gatherings rapidly approaching I’m not sure how much writing time I will have at my disposal.

Anyway …

In last week’s edition of Sprouts, I dedicated some space to extol the virtues of Fantasy Rundown and also to thank them for linking to our work. When I started writing/blogging about baseball online almost three years ago I was immediately floored by what I found. I expected that other sites and writers would view me as competition but instead I found an environment of cooperation. To my surprise there was no shortage of people willing to link to my work and provide much needed constructive feedback and guidance.

I feel my return efforts will be forever inadequate, but none-the-less I feel it is my obligation and my priviledge to publicly thank some of the sites that, like Fantasy Rundown, have been gracious enough to link to this site’s content in our first 6 months of existence. I encourage you to check these sites out, though if you are a fan of the team the cover, you’re probably already a regular reader of their work:

That’s just a start of the list so look for more next week. Until then let’s get into the regular Sprouts routine.

Leading off we have a Mike Trout based article from our Angels site, Halo Hangout. Who doesn’t love some good service time talk? Especially when it relates to how one of the game’s top prospects will (probably) not have rookie eligibility in 2012. In addition to sharing this particular article, I also wanted to showcase the work of our Angels writers since the site’s staff has been overhauled in the few months. Once you read the below, I hope you will stumble around the site and check out more of their content.

Trout may have lost his rookie status (probably) but 19-year old OF Jorge Soler’s is still very much intact. While Yoenes Cespedes has been getting the bulk of the attention this offseason, the team that lands Soler might be getting a better talent for the long haul. District on Deck Editor, Aaron Somers, has more on the young Cuban outfielder and the Nationals interest in signing him.

The circumstances surrounding the loss of Greg Halman are enough to give us pause and remind us all of how fleeting life can be. But death doesn’t need to be involved for those moments to take place. In the case of Ryan Shopshire, a simple bike ride turned into a significant life altering event. Through the Fence Baseball has more on the story and also about how you can donate to help cover the medical expenses associated with Ryan’s recovery.

Normally at this point I would add a couple more links to round things out, but the vast majority of the other stuff I have flagged recently deals with Halman or the CBA and I plan on linking to – and in some cases quoting from – those articles in the next several days. Until then I hope you enjoy the new logo of the Pensacola Blue Wahoos.
