facebooktwitterreddit

We covered the North Division earlier, and now we will go through the South. We will list the selections and I’ll add my opinions on the picks.

Corpus Christi Hooks: Double-A Affiliate of the Astros

Position Players:
Wladamir Sutil – Shortstop
J.D. Martinez – Outfielder

Pitchers:
Xavier Cedeno
Dallas Kuechel

Total Number of All Stars: 4

J.D Martinez is a very solid hitter for the Hooks. Martinez has 222 at bats and has a line of .315/.382/.468 with 70 hits and 45 RBI. We talked about Cedeno yesterday, he has 93 strikeouts on the season and posted 14 in Monday’s game. We’ve also mentioned Keuchel  before as well who has an ERA of 2.72 and is having a good season, despite a .500 record.

Frisco RoughRiders: Double-A Affiliate of the Rangers

Position Players:
Mike Bianucci – DH
Leonys Martin – Outfielder
Tommy Mendonca – Infielder (Reserve)
Renny Osuna – Infielder (Reserve)
Jose Felix – Catcher (Reserve)

Pitchers:
Adalberto Flores
Justin Miller
Martin Perez

Total Number of All Stars: 8

I’ve seen Frisco in person twice this season and continue to be impressed with the two headed monster of Tommy Mendonca and Mike Bianucci, collectively they have 31 home runs and 116 RBIs. I don’t expect Martin to play tonight as he is rehabbing a back injury, (he has spent some time in the Arizona league, so it may be a possibility).

Martin Perez is a beast of a pitcher, 78 strikeouts and only 30 earned runs in 82.1 innings. I’m curious to see how much they use him tonight.

Midland Rockhounds: Double-A Affiliate of the Athletics

Position Players:
Michael Spina – 1st Base
Jermaine Mitchell – Outfielder
Grant Green – Infielder (Reserve)

Pitchers:
Ethan Hollingsworth

Total Number of All Stars: 4

Michael Spina leads the Hounds with 50 RBI and is tied for the lead in home runs at 10. Spina is tied with Mitchell in home runs, and Jermaine has 47 RBI on the season. Hollingsworth is 3-2 with a 3.78 ERA in 9 games this season.

San Antonio Missions: Double-A Affiliates of the Padres

Position Players:
Vince Belnome – 2nd Base
James Darnell – 3rd Base
Ali Solis – Catcher
Sawyer Carroll – Outfielder (Reserve)

Pitchers:
Anthony Bass
Brad Brach
Casey Kelly
Jorge Reyes

Total Number of All Stars: 8

The first-half division leader San Antonio is very well represented in the game. Casey Kelly is the top prospect for the Padres and has a record of 6-3 with 65 strikeouts and a WHIP of 1.46. Darnell leads the Missions in average with .337 and has 93 hits in 276 at bats. Belnome is another power hitter for San Antonio, with 14 home runs and 53 RBIs and an OPS of 1.007.

The game is tonight in San Antonio and I’ll have a recap of the game up tomorrow!
